Stunningly beautiful race w/ 17 miles of oceanfront views. Very well organized smaller (400 plus in full; 500 plus in half) race. The entire race is run on the shoulder of a main road. The asphalt is in great condition but running w/ the slope for all those miles gave me a bunch of blisters on my left foot.
the race director clearly loves what he does and his informative and humorous e-mails are great.
Tons of aid stops and all with sports drink. I tried to find some sunscreen late in the race and couldn't so I would make that suggestion.
Race Tips
Runners must deal w/ Hawaii heat. Race begins @ 5:30am to help but for anyone who runs over 4 hours (I was almost 5) the heat is an issue. The sun hits your back and there's very little shade. There are some hills the middle miles but its super flat the final 8 when you really want it. They have a lovely postrace set-up where many runners soaked tired legs in the ocean. Can\'t beat that!
This is a point to point race. I stayed near the finish line @ Lahaina. They have a shuttle bus that takes runners to the start in Wahlea. Runners can stay in Wahlea and catch a post race shuttle but there is a charge for that.

Oceanfront running. Zero ugly on this course. Great "function"!
